INTRODUTION
After graduation from Tsukuba University, Yusaku made a name for himself as a forward for J.League sides Avispa Fukuoka, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Kyoto Sanga, Albirex Niigata and (back then 3rd division club) Tochigi SC.Tochigi SC had already been offering him to join the club for a long time before he moved there in 2007,as Tochigi is the prefecture in Japan where Yusaku was born and raised. After his transfer to Tochigi that year, Yusaku led the team to its 2nd division promotion and retired at the end of the season.
After his retirement, Yusaku was appointed to a variety of roles within Tochigi SC, such as front office staff, top team coach and youth academy development officer. In 2010, he obtained the S-level license from the Japanese Football Association which enabled him to coach all kinds of professional football teams, regardless if club or national team.
In 2015, Yusaku became coach at the youth academy of the Urawa Reds, fostering homegrown young players and thus contributin to enhance the top team’s roster with promising rookies.
In May 2019, when the current Urawa top team manager Otsuki was also assigned, he was promoted to the post as head coach and led his team to the Asian Champions League finals 2019.
Ueno was recognized for his many years of coaching experience, then He was appointed a coach at the Japanese national team in 2021.
After the 2022 World Cup as coach of the Japanese national team, he took over as head coach of FC Gifu in 2023.
