INTRODUTION

Born on August 7, 2001, in Chiba, Japan. He attended Sawara Junior High School in Katori City.
After enrolling at Funabashi Municipal High School, he became only the second active high school student in history—following Kenzo Shirai—to be selected for the Japanese national team. He competed at the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, where he won a bronze medal. He later claimed victory at the Individual All-Around Super Final held after the World Championships.
At Juntendo University, he won his first titles in both the All-Japan Gymnastics Individual All-Around Championships and the NHK Cup All-Around, earning selection for the Tokyo Olympic Games as a member of Japan’s national team.
In 2021, at the All-Japan Event Championships, he won the horizontal bar final by successfully executing consecutive release moves, defeating gymnastics legend Kohei Uchimura. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, despite it being his debut, he delivered consistent performances, qualifying first in the individual all-around, horizontal bar, and team events. In the finals, he won a silver medal in the men’s team event, and gold medals in both the men’s individual all-around and the horizontal bar.
At the 2022 All-Japan Individual All-Around Championships, he secured back-to-back titles with a dominant performance, winning by a margin of three points, and went on to win the NHK Cup as well. At the 2022 World Championships in Liverpool, he captured the individual all-around gold medal, establishing himself as the undisputed world champion.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, although he was unable to defend his individual all-around title, he contributed to Japan’s gold medal victory in the team event.
At the 2025 World Championships in Jakarta, he won the individual all-around title, becoming only the second gymnast in history to achieve three consecutive world championships.
He is Japan’s ace in men’s gymnastics, aiming to reclaim the individual all-around gold medal at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
